Questions are welcome, they can help me flesh out the world better, or give me ideas of what should be added next. This is meant to be a reference page since I can't fit all the world-building into the comics (sadly).

Sybarna Region

Government:  Democracy
Climate:  Polar
Geography:  Mountainous with lots of forests and some expanses of tundra.
Demographics:  Smallest population.  Largest percentage of the population has pale skin and hair in the cool color spectrum.
Pokemon are:  Tools and pets.

Brief History:  In ancient times was split up into nine regions each ruled by a warlord.  Six of these clans were united by Queen Clastia, and the remaining warlords were defeated at the hand of her niece, Mariska, Conqueror of the North, after Clastia’s death.  Mariska sought to bring the rest of the continent under her control and marched to conquer the kingdom of Salhari to the south, but was turned back and ultimately slain.  Her empire was divided among her three generals, two of which who marched their war-battered people south to settle in Mesopen.  One displaced clan eventually resettled in Sybarna 500 years later, the other never returned, founding the Mesopen cities of Poultenheim and Rumercry.

Culture:  The people of Salhari are very practical.  They don’t have pokemon gyms and rarely participate in recreational battles, particularly since the wild areas are so expansive, and a person can be in great danger if caught away from civilization with a party of fainted Pokemon.  Fire type Pokemon are required by law to be in your possession any time you leave the borders of civilization, and only the hardy ones are allowed out during the winter.  Various breeds of dog Pokemon are bred for pulling sleds as people travel from place to place; houndoom and growlithe, being fire types on top of that, are especially popular.  Beyond that, most people own Pokemon that help them with their respective jobs or especially cute Pokemon are kept as pets.  Most people do no catch wild Pokemon, but rather purchase what they need from respected breeders.

Landmarks (incomplete)

Crosswind's Crib--The highest elevation to be found on the entire continent, this peak and the surrounding mountain range are known for their high winds and for being a hotspot for hunters of evolutionary stones.  The lower ridges of these mountains are popular with casual hikers, but very few people have ever made it all the way to the summit.

Glass Bay--So named for have smooth seas half the year, and being frozen solid the other six months.  Also known as the migratory breeding ground of the Wailmer line.

Infinity Pass--Along the southern edge of Glass Bay, the mountains meet the sea in a series of sheer cliffs.  The pass is actually a series of narrow canyons fed by a melting glacier higher up in the mountains.  While treacherous, it is the fastest route by land between Romar and Celsium Village (only necessary during April and October when the ice on the bay is too thick to drive most boats through and too thin to ride a sled across).  The safest paths require frequent maintenance particularly during winter.

The Conqueror's Gambit--Believed to be the point off of which Mariska's navy sank.  Many expiditions have attempted to find the missing ships, but thus far none have been successful.  Superstitious locals of Celsium Village believe the point to be cursed, and it is true that many of the salvage teams have run into some unusually bad luck over the course of their investigations.

Mesopen Region

Government:  Democracy
Climate:  Temperate
Geography:  Largely flat with forests and plains.
Demographics:  Greatest population.  Largest percentage of the population has pale skin or is of mixed race.  No predominant hair color.  Highest unemployment rates.
Pokemon are:  Toys and pets

Brief History:  Early clans in Mesopen were not warlike, and put up little to no resistance to Mariska’s forces as she marched south to more worthy opponents.  Nonetheless, the people were relentlessly pillaged by the Sybarnan forces, causing the second of the continents collective three dark ages.  After the war, a monarchy was soon established, fashioned after that which had been ruling in Salhari for 600 years.  When Salhari fell into a civil war, Mesopen supplied food and weapons to both sides, but the economy and the monarchy ultimately collapsed, and some fifty years later they were the first to adopt a democracy and Sybarna soon followed suit.  A second civil war in Salhari again caused great economic growth and collapse in Mesopen, after which recreational Pokemon battles were legalized.

Culture:  Recreational battling (both as a participant and an observer)  is the favorite past time, and matches between Premier Gym Leaders and star trainers can be sold out weeks in advance.  Children are given Pokemon at age ten and are allowed to challenge gyms by the time they are fifteen.  Challenging a gym, win or lose, will earn you money, especially if you put on a good show.  This is why so many people are able to get by without holding any formal job, and why battling and gyms were put in place.  The people of Mesopen are very worldly as a result and more than half of the children in every classroom want to grow up to be stars of the battling scene.  Pokemon are traded and bought like playing cards in some cites, but most serious trainers would rather catch their own.

Landmarks (incomplete)

The Ivory Glade--So named for the unusual formations of white rocks in this area.  Ancient clues allude that it was once a holy place of sorts, but few people dare set foot there in modern times.  The Pokemon that live in this valley are powerful and often rare, but are also notoriously aggressive towards human trespassers.  An adult Pokemon caught from this ecosystem will be nearly untrainable as they pose a danger to everyone and everything around them.  Young Pokemon aren't quite as hazardous, except that they are likely protected by their parents.  And even then, many young Pokemon grow up to be just as aggressive as the adults, even if predominantly raised by humans.  It is illegal to enter the Ivory Glade as a result of these dangers.

Salhari Region

Government:  Monarchy
Climate:  Tropical/Arid
Geography:  The mainland is mostly rolling scrubland and desert, with some tropical climates on the islands.
Demographics:  Largest percentage of the population has tanned or dark skin and dark hair.  And Dexter Princess was here.
Pokemon are:  Equals

Brief History:  The first monarchy of Salhari was established 200 years after the cataclysm, and went through about four royal family’s by the time Mariska, Conqueror of the North, came to power.  Since then, the ‘royal line’ has all been of the same family, though they have not always been in power.  Following the defeat of Mariska’s campaign, King Savir closed Salhari’s borders off from the rest of the world, resulting in the continents third collective dark age during which the use of their runic writings and the location of many sacred shrines was lost.  It takes about 500 years before the people revolt in a civil war which forces the borders open again.  The rebels take the capital after four years of fighting and a single prince escapes to the Broken Lands, and another hundred years later, his grandson becomes the figurehead of an Imperial uprising and that takes the capital back, after which thousands of the democratic rebels are slaughtered.  In 1923, a liberal Salharan princess ascends the throne and legalizes recreational Pokemon battling within the district of the capital, Piazue.

Culture:  The most ancient of all the regions, Salhari is ever at war with itself, even if there hasn’t been bloodshed for more than a century.  The two main schools of thought are called ‘Purists’ and ‘Reformers’, though both sides have a number of uglier names they like to call each other.  Purists value tradition, and believe Pokemon should be respected as equals (and not battled with).  They hold tightly to the monarchy, even though not every member of the royal family agrees with the Purist line of thinking.  Reformers wish to push the region to be more open to the ideas of Mesopen, but tend to be more antagonistic about it and even destructive.  Most people fall somewhere between the two, but there are extremes on both sides.  Outside of Salhari, ‘Purist’ is often used as a derogatory term for anyone from the region that is perceived to be elitist.  The current monarchy tries to walk the line between the two parties, with each ruling king or queen leaning more to one side or the other.  Their cities and towns are wide-spread, so flying Pokemon are common as are ridable Pokemon like rapidash and rhyhorn.  Most children are given an egg when they are young, and they will raise that Pokemon themself to be their life-long companion.

I'm trying to remember if you said in one of the comics, there are 8 Gyms in Mesopen and 1 in Salhari, right? Since battling is discouraged in Sybarna, it makes sense there would not be one there.
